Douglas County Public Works Department - Operations & Maintenance Division - Full Salary Range for Position: $68,889.60/yr - $98,467.20/yr - Full Time Exempt Position, includes excellent full-family benefit package, PERS/OPSRP retirement and availability of deferred compensation retirement savings.

This classification serves as manager of the operations and maintenance division of the Public Works Department and has administrative and management responsibility to plan, organize, direct and evaluate the functions of the division in areas of: road maintenance, bridge and special projects; ensures work performed is in compliance with governmental regulations. Incumbent supervises division support staff and operations and has responsibility for work performed within the division. Incumbent may serve as department head in the absence of the Director. This position is responsible for supervising employees who are represented in a labor union.

Minimum Qualifications: Eight years progressively responsible work experience in corrective and preventative maintenance of roads, bridges, structures and buildings which includes three years supervisory or management experience. At time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon driver's license.

Desirable Qualifications: Formal education in business management, engineering, and/or technical experience is desired, but not required. Possession of a commercial driver license or ability to obtain such license after appointment is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: This work is divided between office and field environments and requires bending, hearing voice conversation, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, and walking rough terrain. A moderate amount of driving is required.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: While not part of the initial applicant screening, successful candidates for this position may be required to pass a criminal history background prior to receiving an offer of employment, or as part of a contingent offer of employment.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION: Employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a pre-employment chemical detection screen. To determine if physically qualified to perform the essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and audiological exam conducted at County expense.
