Douglas County Public Works Department - Solid Waste Division - Full Salary Range for Position: $68,889.60/yr - $98,467.20/yr - Full Time Exempt Position - includes excellent full-family benefit package, PERS/OPSRP retirement and availability of deferred compensation retirement savings

This position serves as Manager of the Douglas County Public Works Solid Waste Division. The Division Manager organizes and directs all activities related to the management of the division; assumes responsibility for the planning, management and coordination of the Solid Waste Program for Douglas County and provides expert and technical waste management advice to the Public Works Director and Board of Commissioners; assesses program needs then develops, directs, coordinates and evaluates plans and programs; establishes and interprets policy and procedure; develops and monitors division budget; and supervises support staff. This position is responsible for supervising employees who are represented in a labor union.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Eight years progressively responsible work experience in waste management on a large scale which includes three years of direct management experience. At time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon driver's license.

Desirable qualifications: Coursework or experience in civil engineering and construction technology. MOLO certification is desired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in the office and in the field, requiring bending, hearing alarms and voice conversation, lifting up to 35 pounds, pushing, pulling, standing, stooping, twisting and walking, and walking uneven terrain. A considerable amount of driving is required.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION: Employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a pre-employment chemical detection screen. To determine if physically qualified to perform the essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and audiological exam conducted at County expense.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: While not part of the initial applicant screening, successful candidates for this position may be required to pass a criminal history background prior to receiving an offer of employment, or as part of a contingent offer of employment.

DRIVING RECORD: Applicants selected for interview will be required to bring to the interview a CERTIFIED COURT PRINT driving history obtained from DMV. Please allow 5-7 days for delivery; out of state allow two weeks.
