Under the direction of the Mayor, perform administrative duties involving directing, coordinating & facilitating City projects, programs & policies; policy interpretations, & resource allocation issues; serve as the Mayor’s Office liaison & coordinate between the Mayor, City officials, governmental agencies, community organizations & business community.
Under the direction of the Mayor, take the lead on initiatives & special projects; providing general policy direction, facilitating committees or work groups of City & community leaders; provide direction & coordination through face-to-face meetings, telephone contacts & written communication. Develop & maintain positive working relationships with community organizations, residents, business community, non-profit organizations, & government agencies as a representative of the Mayor’s Office. Work with Directors & department staff to design & implement short & long term Mayor’s Office priorities. Evaluate the performance of various programs; coordinate & participate in the activities of the City Management Team. Assist the Mayor with preparation & review of the City’s budget for the Mayor’s & Council’s approval; monitor the budget & inform the Mayor of significant changes, impacts or issues; recommend alternatives to resolve budgetary issues. Support the Mayor in efforts to inform the City Council on important issues; act as an administrative resource to the City Council in meeting goals & objectives; coordinate agenda schedules & items to be brought before the City Council; provide guidance to City staff presenters. Coordinate between the Mayor, city officials, government agencies & the community; meet with State & federal officials & legislators to represent Federal Way’s viewpoint on legislative matters. Serve on various regional committees & task forces as necessary; cooperate with elected officials & staff of neighboring communities on common concerns; assist the Mayor & the Council in their roles on various regional committees.
Perform a variety of professional & administrative duties involving directing, coordinating & facilitating City projects, programs & policies; review & make recommendations on complex policy & resource allocation issues. Direct coordination of special projects as assigned by the Mayor, & of community & economic development in Federal Way; meets with City officials & potential developers to develop long-range economic development strategies & capital improvement plans; direct development of financial plans for the future; coordinate with Department Directors for the development of revenue projections & evaluate new revenue opportunities. Meet with local & regional government officials, private industry representatives, local business owners & others to negotiate contracts & agreements concerning a variety of issues. Enhance, enable & encourage general communication between the city & community groups such as the Chamber of Commerce, associations, the media, interested citizens, other government representatives & City employees. Under the direction of the Mayor coordinate & schedule promotional & public relations activities for the City; direct the development of outreach programs to encourage citizen participation in City government & encourage use of public programs & facilities. Represent the Mayor’s Office at key events. Perform related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration or a related field & eight years progressive responsibility working in a government agency involving policy & issues analysis in areas such as finance, budget or policy analysis or a combination of education and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the position. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel & work outside traditional office hours. Experience with elected officials preferred.
Salary $98,340-$118,008 annually
