The City of Cocoa Beach seeks a professional City Manager who is a dedicated team player and can quickly gain the confidence of the community. Cocoa Beach lies on a beautiful Barrier Island nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Banana River Lagoon. It has 6.4 miles of public beaches that are home to 11,378 full time residents and over 2.4 million visitors per year. It is a beachside community just a short drive from Kennedy Space Center and three major universities. The Orlando International Airport is less than one hour from Cocoa Beach. Port Canaveral, the 2nd largest cruise port in North America, is only 10 minutes away. The City boasts 10 City and 2 County parks, softball and baseball field(lighted), 50-meter swimming pool, skate park, 12 tennis courts (plus 2 tennis courts located in residential areas), 2 public boat launches and a 27-hole golf course. It is located in the center of Brevard County which has a population of 610,000.
The City of Cocoa Beach is governed by Commission/Manager with 4 elected Commissioners and Mayor through nonpartisan city-wide elections. Commissioners serve 4-year staggering terms with a two-term limit in place. The City employs 209 FTE and 116 part time (regular and seasonal) and has a 2020-21 adopted budget of $64,521,760. City departments include Development Services, City Clerk, Finance, Fire, Information Technology, Personnel, Police, Leisure Services, Public Works, Storm Water, Water Reclamation (City operates own wastewater treatment plant that also serves Port Canaveral, Patrick Space Force Base, and unincorporated areas of the County). The City Attorney reports directly to the City Commission under contract.
Serving at the pleasure of the City Commission are the following boards or committees: Board of Adjustment, Planning Board, Leisure Services Board, Land Management Committee, and Sustainability Committee. The City also has a Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) with an annual budget of $1,006,413. The Board for the CRA are the elected City Commissioners as allowed by Florida law.
The Minimum Training and Experience for this position are: A bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration, Urban Planning or a related field and a minimum of five years experience as a City/County Manager, an Assistant City Manager or other high level administration experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
City Residency is required within 6 months of employment commencing.
